The Henry M Jackson Foundation is seeking a Medical Epidemiologist
to support the Operational Infectious Diseases Department at the
Navel Health Research Center in San Diego, CA. The incumbent is
responsible for providing routine and non-routine clinical trial
support for the department/division to enhance operating
efficiency. Incumbent exercises independent judgment in the
resolution of research problems.
Responsibilities
1. Must be able to travel to six military bases.
2. Reviews adverse and serious adverse events and assists the
Principal Investigator in writing up these events in a clinically
relevant manner for review by the medical monitors. Ensures that
adverse and serious adverse events have been documented and
forwarded according to protocol guidelines and regulatory
reporting requirements.
3. Reviews Case Report Forms (CRF) for patient eligibility,
protocol compliance, omissions, errors, etc. and signs and files
them as required.
4. Reviews the source document files for verification of critical
variables, inclusion/exclusion criteria, visit dates, lab data,
etc.
5. Ensures that research records are stored and secured properly,
and that records are updated and properly maintained.
6. Conducts data verification for necessary documents.
7. Assists the investigator and protocol coordinator with
questions.
8. Develops protocols and proposals including writing of the
scientific background, study methodology, and data analyses.
9. Writes reports and scientific manuscripts for peer-reviewed
professional journals.
10. Delivers presentations to the Department and at various
scientific and military conferences.
11. Provides knowledge and insight to principal investigator for
new study ideas and long-term goals and objectives.
NONESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
1. Writes letters and reports for study related purposes.
2. Assists in the design of CRFs.
3. Reviews protocols/Informed Consent documents.
4. Targeted physical exams during scheduled study visits; assist
PI in documenting protocol deviations.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Knowledge of IRB procedures.
2. Knowledge of clinical trial/FDA regulations.
3. Knowledge of basic disease etiologies and preventive
strategies.
4. Knowledge of survey methods and basic statistics used to
collect and interpret data.
5. Skill in use of word processing, spreadsheet, graphic, email,
and database software.
6. Skill in writing memorandums, correspondence, abstracts,
articles, and proposals.
7. Ability to plan and prioritize work.
8. Ability to make presentations to groups.
9. Ability to be a self-starter and work independently.
10. Ability to interface with investigators, vendors, research
staff, and study participants.
Minimum Education: Certified Nurse Practitioner required Licensed
MD/DO/PA preferred
Minimum Experience: 0-2 years
Training Requirements: Required Knowledge, Skills, and
Abilities: Knowledge of FDA Phase 2/3/4 trial experience a plus;
excellent communication skills; ability to troubleshoot technical
procedures; ability to work independently and work as a team;
Research experience also a plus, but not required.
Physical Capabilities: Must be able to read reports, labels, and
use computer; must be able to hear well enough to communicate with
coworkers standing, walking, sitting and must be able to write,
type, and use phone system.
Required Licenses, Certification or Registration: Licensed
MD/DO/PA or Certified Nurse Practitioner.
Work Environment: laboratory and clinical environment; may
require working early mornings, evening and weekends; traveling
out of town (possibly overnight) is required.
