The Behavioral Health and
Research program at the University of Texas Medical Branch at
Galveston (UTMB Health) invites applications for a 2 – 3 year
postdoctoral fellowship in teen dating violence/adolescent health
research. The selected fellow will work with Dr. Jeff Temple on
his ongoing 6-year longitudinal study on teen dating violence
funded by the National Institutes of Health and the National
Institute of Justice. The fellow will spend the majority of
her/his time authoring manuscripts, writing grants, and working on
data management/analysis.
Candidates pursuing or with
doctoral degrees in psychology, epidemiology, public health,
health behavior, communication, sociology, and related fields are
invited to apply. Competitive applicants will have 1) a strong
interest in pursuing an academic career, 2) prior experience in
all phases of the research process, and 3) strong skills in
managing/analyzing data. (If applicable, clinical duties may also
be available). The Behavioral Health and Research program is
housed within UTMB’s Department of Ob/Gyn, which is nationally
ranked in the top 10 for NIH funding. UTMB Health, one of the
oldest academic health centers in the nation, is part of the world
famous Texas Medical Center and is located on the Texas coast just
south of Houston. With 32 miles of beaches, historic landscape,
and affordable living, Galveston is an ideal place to live and

begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. Start
date is flexible. Salary is consistent with NIH guidelines (e.g.,
$39,264 for candidates just out of graduate school), and the
fellow will receive additional funds for research-related travel.
Provided the right candidate and conditions, it is also possible
that the fellow can transition into a faculty position at UTMB.
