Job Description Summary
Advocate Aurora Research Institute (AARI)
is invested in building its research portfolio by
recruiting a Senior Research Scientist (equivalent to full
professor) who leads a high-quality research program
preferably within AARI priority areas of aging,
cardiovascular disease, cancer, health services research,
or neuroscience. Candidates whose research addresses
health equity are preferred. Qualified individuals should
have a record of sustained external funding as principal
investigator and will be expected to independently lead
projects with other scientists, health system stakeholders
and external collaborators. Applicants should have a
demonstrated ability to build collaborative working
relationships with multiple stakeholders and
constituencies at all levels in academic and health care
settings. Candidates are expected to have strong
quantitative skills and/or qualitative skills and an
established background conducting research in public
health, epidemiology, health sciences, biostatistics,
health economics, health services research, implementation
science, or equivalent. As a senior scientist, applicants
should have a record of mentoring postdocs, junior and
mid-career researchers, and research staff. In addition,
the senior scientist will work with the Scientific
Director to identify opportunities to build research
infrastructure including applying for T32 or equivalent
mechanisms to develop a postdoctoral trainee program and
applying for large collaborative grant opportunities.
Advocate Aurora Research
Institute (AARI) is part of Advocate Health, including
Wake Forest University School of Medicine (WFUSM) which
serves as the academic core of Advocate Health and is
among the top 50 research institutions in the United
States. Advocate Health (AH) is a large, integrated
healthcare delivery system that serves nearly 6 million
patients annually and is the fifth largest nonprofit
health system in the nation. The health organization is
comprised of more than 1,000 care sites and 67 hospitals
across 6 states spanning the Southeastern and Midwestern
portions of the United States. The expertise, size, and
scope of our highly integrated enterprise positions us to
be uniquely poised to address barriers and challenges
associated with the translation of research into effective
strategies for the prevention and treatment of disease.
Major Responsibilities:

Sustains an externally funded high-quality program of
research in area(s) that align with AAH strengths and AARI
priorities.
·
Provides expert knowledge and leadership related to their
area(s) of expertise in developing/refining the AARI
academic research agenda and system-wide initiatives.
·
Leads collaborative projects with clinicians and other
scientists, within or outside AARI, to develop, implement
and conduct research that aligns with organizational
strengths and AARI priorities.
·
Works with the Scientific Director to identify
opportunities to build AARI research infrastructure.
·
Mentor postdocs, junior and mid-career scientists and
investigators, as well as research team members.
·
Serve as the AARI site lead for specific projects with
collaborators and funders to ensure requirements and
expectations are met in a timely manner.
·
Serves as a leader on organization and AARI committees and
task forces, as well as provides service and leadership to
external scientific organizations.
·
Provides expert knowledge to research leaders and other
scientists in addressing and resolving issues related to
activities, budgets, and staffing for research projects.
·
Seeks guidance from Scientific Director and others with
relevant expertise on as-needed basis, typically at
“juncture” points of strategic decisions.

Disseminates research findings through reports,
presentations at regional, national, and international
conferences, and publications in peer-reviewed journals.
Experience Required:
A doctoral degree with 7+
years of experience conducting research in public health,
epidemiology, health sciences, biostatistics, health
economics, health services research, implementation
science, or equivalent. Applicants are expected to have a
history of research accomplishment with sustained and
high-impact peer-reviewed publications. Current extramural
funding as PI is expected.

This is a remote position
with some in-person meetings as needed. Employees of AARI
may work in AL, AR, AZ, DE, FL, GA, IA, ID, IL, IN, LA,

PA, SC, SD, TN, TX, VA, WI, WV, WY.
