The
Indiana University School of Public Health‐Bloomington
(SPH‐B)
invites applications for multiple faculty openings in
non-tenure Lecturer and Clinical faculty tracks at all
ranks in the Department of Health & Wellness Design. The
SPH-B seeks individuals who will contribute toward
academic excellence in teaching in support of our
mission of preventing disease and promoting the health
and well-being of individuals, families, and communities
in these four areas:
• Tourism Bridging
Healthcare
• Design and Implementation
Science
• Outdoors, the Natural
Environment, and Health
These
10-month appointments would ideally start August 1,
2025. Applications received by November 30, 2024, will
receive full consideration, and applications will be
accepted until the position is filled. A member of the
prestigious Association of American Universities (AAU)
since 1909, Indiana University prides itself in offering
outstanding academics grounded in world class research
and vibrant campus life. The SPH-B is located on the
flagship campus of Indiana University and is comprised
of over 200 faculty across five departments. Continuing
the momentum of hiring over 60 outstanding faculty over
the last three years, the SPH-B is launching another
wave of faculty recruitment. Since rebranding to the
Department of Health & Wellness Design in 2020, the
department has grown rapidly adding 13 faculty members
and launching the Center for Health by Design. The
department has the world's first B.S. in Health &
Wellness Design and is planning M.S. and Ph.D. programs
in Health & Wellness Design planned to launch in 2026.
The Department of Health & Wellness Design maintains
strong connections to other STEM departments and schools
at Indiana University and health systems across the
state.

Qualifications: Candidates
must hold a doctoral degree or professional doctorate
(PhD, DRPH, MD, DO, PharmD, DNP, etc.) in a relevant
field from an accredited educational institution.
Applicants for recreational therapy positions must be
Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialists (CTRS) or
eligible for certification before start date. A firm
commitment to the role of diversity in all aspects of
research, education and service is essential. Candidates
must have teaching experience at the graduate or
professional level. Good interpersonal skills, effective
communication skills, and the ability to work
cooperatively and congenially within diverse faculty
members and students are required. Leadership skills and
vision for enhancing the academic components of an
interdisciplinary department are essential. Priority
consideration will be given to candidates with expertise
in at least one of these areas related specifically to
recreational therapy, tourism bridging healthcare and/or
health outcomes, design and implementation science, and
outdoors, the natural environment, and health. This
position is located on the campus of Indiana University
Bloomington in Bloomington, Indiana, and successful
candidates are expected to work on the Bloomington
campus to allow full engagement with the department,
school, campus, and community.
Additional Qualifications
Responsibilities: The IU SPH-B
is conducting a search for an open-rank Non-Tenure Track
Faculty Positions in the Department of Health & Wellness
Design, who can teach courses in the department, design
and create new curricula, and mentor our students from
diverse backgrounds and perspectives. The ideal
candidate will 1) bring real-world experience in
designing health and wellness interventions, 2) have a
passion for teaching and mentoring undergraduate and
graduate students, and 3) have a deep understanding and
the ability to convey conceptual knowledge and skills in
health and wellness design research, practice, and
leadership. HEWD academic programs and areas of special
interest include:· Recreational Therapy· Tourism
Bridging Healthcare and/or Health Outcomes· Design and
Implementation Science· Outdoors, the Natural
Environment, and HealthThis will be a full-time,
non-tenure eligible, 10-month academic appointment at
the level of Clinical Assistant Professor, Clinical
Associate Professor, Clinical Professor. A definition of

Initial rank and salary will be commensurate with
qualifications and experience. The teaching expectation
will be six courses per year (three courses in the Fall
term and three courses in the Spring term). Courses
taught will be related to one's interests, expertise,
and needs of the program.
