The UCLA Jonathan and Karin Fielding School of Public Health is undertaking a search for a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Epidemiology

(https://epi.ph.ucla.edu). This is a state-funded tenure-track position with a 9-month appointment.

We seek an outstanding candidate with demonstrated success and dedication to research, teaching, and training the next generation of epidemiologists. Research with an emphasis in epidemiology methodology would be welcomed in the areas such as, but not limited to, risk modeling & prediction, causal inference, and big data analyses. The specialty areas can be in either epidemiology of infectious diseases or non-communicable diseases.

Candidates must have a doctoral degree (PhD, ScD, DrPH or equivalent) in Epidemiology, Public Health, Population Health Sciences, or a related field, a strong track record of peer-reviewed scientific publications, experience teaching and training undergraduate and graduate students, and a commitment to epidemiology and public health. The candidate is expected to bring or develop a successful external-funded research program in their specialty area. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success in innovative and productive research that will enable them to become a recognized scholar in epidemiology methodology.

Since its inception, the UCLA Department of Epidemiology has established itself as a leader in epidemiologic theory and methods, applied epidemiology, and public health. The Department also has strong research and training relationship with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health as well as with national and international institutions. The Fielding School of Public Health is located on the main UCLA campus in direct proximity to the other health sciences and professional schools (Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, and the College of Letters and Science) offering shared resources. The UCLA community as a whole has a strong history of and commitment to interdisciplinary research and collaboration.

Candidates should submit a cover letter expressing their interest in the position, a curriculum vitae, research, teaching, diversity statements, as well as the names and contact information for three professional references online to: https://apptrkr.com/5643666

Early applications are encouraged. To ensure full consideration, please submit applications by December 1, 2024. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2025. Faculty appointment level and salary will be commensurate with the candidate's experience and qualifications. According to UC and FSPH standards, the FSPH fully covered 9-month salary will be composed of a component, ranging between $78,200 - $101,400. Other components of pay are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions. Any off-scale salary components are dependent upon the candidate's experience and final approval by the Chancellor.

We value candidates whose experience in research, teaching, and community service has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity and excellence. Women and underrepresented minorities are encouraged to apply.

The University of California is committed to creating and maintaining a community dedicated to the advancement, application, and transmission of knowledge and creative endeavors through academic excellence, where all individuals who participate in University programs and activities can work and learn together in a safe and secure environment, free of violence, harassment, bullying and other demeaning behavior, discrimination, exploitation, or intimidation. With this commitment as well as a commitment to addressing all forms of academic misconduct, UCLA conducts targeted employment reference checks for finalists to whom departments or other hiring units would like to extend formal offers of appointment into Academic Senate faculty positions. The targeted employment reference checks involve contacting the finalists' current and prior places of employment to ask whether there have been substantiated findings of misconduct that would violate the University's Faculty Code of Conduct. To implement this process, UCLA requires all applicants for Academic Senate faculty positions to complete, sign, and upload the form entitled "Authorization to Release Information" into RECRUIT as part of their application. If the applicant does not include the signed authorization to release information with the application materials, the application will be considered incomplete. As with any incomplete application, the application will not receive further consideration. Although all applicants for faculty recruitments must complete the entire application, only finalists (i.e., those to whom the department or other hiring unit would like to extend a formal offer) considered for Academic Senate faculty positions will be subject to targeted employment reference checks.
