The University of Manitoba is now recruiting
for a full-time tenure-track position at the Assistant
Professor level within the Manitoba Centre for Health Policy,
Department of Community Health Sciences, Max Rady College of
Medicine, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences.

The Department of Community Health Sciences
includes academics, clinicians and public health practitioners
working in education, service and research related to health
services, the health of populations, societal and cultural
dimensions of health, family health, epidemiology and
biostatistics, violence and injury prevention, Indigenous
health, and global public health, and other areas. An
integrated and multidisciplinary approach brings together
researchers, educators, health professionals and policy-makers
from a variety of provincial, national and international
perspectives.
The Manitoba Centre for Health Policy is a
research centre of excellence that conducts world class
population-based research on health services, population and
public health, and the social determinants of health (see
http://umanitoba.ca/faculties/health_sciences/medicine/units/chs/departmental_units/mchp/
). MCHP develops and maintains a comprehensive
population-based data repository on behalf of the Province of
Manitoba for use by local, national and international research
communities. MCHP promotes a collaborative environment to
create, disseminate and apply its research. The work of MCHP
supports the development of evidence-informed policy, programs
and services that maintain and improve the health and
well-being of Manitobans and Canadians. The Manitoba Centre
for Health Policy sets the international standard for using
population-based administrative data to create new knowledge
that informs health policy, social policy and service
delivery.
The duties of this position include:
(1)
leading research projects in support of the
MCHP-Manitoba Health, Seniors and Active Living funding
agreement, in a team based environment;
(2)
developing an independent research program
relevant to the health and well-being of Manitobans and
Canadians;
(3)
disseminating research findings through
peer-review publications, and other knowledge translation and
exchange activities;
(4)
undergraduate/graduate teaching;
(5)
graduate student supervision;
(6)
service within the University and the
community; and
(7)
developing active partnerships with external
agencies, including but not limited to Manitoba Health,
Seniors and Active Living, other
government departments, and the Regional Health Authorities of
Manitoba.
This position is subject to the University of
Manitoba Rady Faculty of Health Sciences guidelines for tenure
and promotion (see

Applicants must hold a doctoral degree or
equivalent training in population health, health services
research, public health, epidemiology, social sciences or
related fields, have skills and experience in working with
large administrative datasets, and have research interests
that align with the mission of MCHP. Strong quantitative and
methodological skills are required, as well as success in
publishing research findings in peer-reviewed journals, and in
securing grant funding. Applicants should also have excellent
skills in communication and in interdisciplinary work, and
experience in translating research findings to colleagues,
decision-makers and the general public.
