Geisinger Health System (GHS) is seeking a Director, Epidemiology Research to lead a system-wide research program to understand disease etiology, prevent disease, promote health and eliminate health disparities, especially in rural populations.

About the Position
The Director, Epidemiology Research will support Geisinger’s mission of improving care for patients by extending our understanding of the incidence, distribution, and determinants of disease, and by applying epidemiologic methods to understand the effectiveness of treatments. The Director will be charged with expanding Geisinger’s epidemiology research enterprise, strengthening ongoing efforts in chronic disease and environmental epidemiology, and leveraging existing activities in health services and genomics research.

Research opportunities include:
• Utilizing Geisinger’s longitudinal electronic health record (EHR) data and enterprise data warehouse information to identify and quantify disease risk factors and predictors of disease progression
• Studying the impact of innovations in the delivery of health care on patient outcomes, quality and cost of care
• Patient engagement/activation, including strategies for increasing patient compliance
• Identifying factors associated with successful and unsuccessful dissemination of Geisinger innovations to other health care delivery systems
• Combining primary data collection, at the individual or community level, with EHR data for more focused epidemiologic research
• Development of multisite studies with other HMO Research Network members
