Assistant Professor or
Associate Professor of Infectious Disease Epidemiology
(position # TBD). Honolulu, HI. 9-month, full-time, tenure
track, continuous recruitment until filled. Review of
applications will begin on November 18, 2024, and will
continue until position is filled.
Main duties include the following:
●
Teach online and in-person courses on topics related to
infectious disease epidemiology, epidemiologic methods,
and other public health topics to undergraduate and
graduate public health and other health professional
students;
●
Conduct and maintain a program of research on topics
related to infectious disease epidemiology as evidenced by
extramural grants, peer-reviewed publications, and/or
scholarly activities and products;
●
Plan and establish new courses and programs;
●
Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate public health
students;
●
Participate in student recruitment and retention efforts;
●
Serve on departmental, school, and university committees;
●
Provide service to professional and community stakeholders
as relevant to the individual's academic specialty;
●
Engage in activities to advance the department’s mission
to promote health equity and reduce health disparities in
Hawai‘i, nationally, and internationally;
●
Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications—Assistant Professor
●
PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in epidemiology or
closely related field from a college or university of
recognized standing;
●
Demonstrated ability
as a teacher;
●
Demonstrated ability to conduct active research through
peer-reviewed publications and/or other scholarly
products, including research grants;
●
Demonstrated ability to work well with others;
●
Excellent oral and written communication skills;
●
Experience working in multicultural settings;
●
Professionalism in meeting and conferring with others.
Minimum Qualifications—Associate Professor, in addition to
those listed above
♦
Minimum of four (4) years at the rank of Assistant
Professor or one (1) year in the rank of Associate
Professor at another college or university of recognized
standing;
♦ Strong publication record in
peer-reviewed journals of relevant specialty;
♦ Record of grant or contract funded
research as Principal Investigator.
Desirable Qualifications:
●
Established record of effective teaching to undergraduate
and graduate students through classroom and/or distance
education modalities;
●
Demonstrated ability to develop new courses and/or
programs;
●
Experience in supervising and/or mentoring students in
higher education;
●
Record of active research in one of the following areas
related to infectious diseases: epidemiology; emerging
diseases;
research methods; outbreak investigations; mixed methods
assessment of barriers and facilitators to control and
prevention interventions (e.g. vaccination); One Health;
environmental determinants and climate change; health
equity;
●
Demonstrated ability to actively lead and collaborate on
grant funded research;
●
Demonstrated interest or experience working in
multicultural settings that include Native Hawaiian,
Pacific Islander, Filipino, Asian, LGBTQ, and/or other
minoritized populations.
