Assistant Instructor (Epidemiology). Honolulu, HI.
9-month, non-tenure position pending clearance and/or
availability of funds. Continuous recruitment until
filled. Review of applications will begin on December 15,
2024 and will continue until position is filled.
Main duties include the following:

Teach in-person and
online courses related to epidemiology, epidemiological
methods, quantitative reasoning, and other public health
topics to undergraduate and graduate students and other
health professional students
-
Plan and establish
new courses and programs
-
Advise and mentor
undergraduate students in applied learning experiences
and graduate students in practica
-
Participate in
student recruitment and retention efforts
-
Serve and participate
on department and university committees
-
Render service to the
professional or lay community as relevant to the
individual’s academic specialty
-
Other duties as
assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
-
Master’s degree in
epidemiology, public health, or related field from a
college or university of recognized standing
-
Ability to teach
effectively at the undergraduate level and to direct
group discussions
-
Record of effective
teaching or co-teaching an epidemiology or public
health-related course
-
Ability to teach
fundamentals of epidemiology and at least one of the
following: research methods, quantitative reasoning, or
biostatistics
-
Proficient in SAS, R,
or other statistical software
-
Excellent oral and
written communication skills
-
Experience working in
multi-cultural settings
-
Professionalism in
meeting and conferring with others
Desirable Qualifications:
-
PhD or equivalent
doctoral degree in epidemiology, public health, or
related field from a college or university of recognized
standing
-
Experience teaching
at both the undergraduate and graduate level
-
Ability to teach
fundamentals of epidemiology and at least one of the
following: research methods, quantitative reasoning, or
biostatistics
-
Demonstrated history
of service at the university and/or professional level
-
Demonstrated ability
to develop new courses
-
Experience mentoring
and advising undergraduate and graduate public health
students
-
Experience teaching
in a synchronous and/or asynchronous online formats
-
Experience applying
innovative teaching techniques in courses
-
Record of
publications in the peer-reviewed literature
-
Familiarity with
public health applied learning experiences
-
Experience mentoring
students from minoritized groups (e.g., Native Hawaiian,
Pacific Islander, Asian, Indigenous, LGBTQ)
