Ladder Rank Faculty Position – Associate or Full Professor

The Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) invites applications for a full-time ladder rank faculty position at the Associate or Full rank from applicants with deep expertise in the methods of contemporary quantitative epidemiology – including modern causal inference – and a strong interest and track record in methods education.

Context: UCSF is one of the nation's top medical research institutions, and the UCSF Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics is the largest department of epidemiology in the University of California system. Our department provides a supportive and fertile academic environment for innovative research, with special opportunities for learning health system research and research on population health and health equity. Our department has primary responsibility within UCSF for delivering training in the methods of epidemiology, biostatistics, health data science, public health, and health services research. We teach many types of learners, including medical students, fellows, junior faculty, and students in our master's programs and in our PhD Program in Epidemiology and Translational Sciences.

Duties: Ladder rank faculty members in our department are expected to lead an independent, extramurally funded research program; to teach, train, and mentor our students and junior faculty; and to take on significant departmental and university service. This position also includes specific leadership and teaching responsibilities in our PhD Program.

Qualifications: Candidates must have:

• a doctorate in epidemiology, public health, medicine, health policy, data

science/informatics, or a closely related field;

• deep expertise, with a publication record, in the methods of contemporary quantitative epidemiology (including modern causal inference);

• a record of accomplishment in applied epidemiologic research, including history of extramural funding; and

• strong interest and established excellence in teaching the methods of modern epidemiology in both formal and informal settings, including to audiences without extensive mathematical backgrounds.

Faculty with research portfolios in population health and health equity and faculty with diverse backgrounds historically under-represented in science are particularly encouraged to apply. We seek candidates who will contribute to our commitment to diversity and excellence and enrich our culture of collaboration. Qualified individuals who are currently Assistant Professors (or equivalent) are encouraged to apply.

UC San Francisco seeks candidates whose experience, teaching, research, or community service has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity and excellence. The University of California is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age or protected veteran status.
