Job Title: Assistant Professor

Department: Public Health Sciences

Faculty Announcement: The Department of Public Health Sciences (PHS) of the Penn State College of Medicine is seeking applicants to fill a tenure-eligible Assistant Professor position with the Division of Epidemiology, the Department of Public Health Sciences.

The Department consists of three academic divisions, namely, Biostatistics and Bioinformatics, Epidemiology, and Health Services and Behavioral Research. There are more than 50 faculty members in the Department (26 tenured/tenure-eligible) and more than 100 supportive staff members. PHS provides a strong infrastructure for its faculty members in the areas of biostatistics, study design, data management, research computing, project management, and finance and administration. PHS offers four graduate programs, namely, Master of Science (MS) in Public Health Sciences, Master of Public Health (MPH), PhD in Biostatistics, and Doctor of Public Health (DrPH), and currently PHS is developing a PhD in Epidemiology program (anticipated to begin in August 2018).

The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the Department’s research and education programs by developing an externally-funded research program in translational research; collaborate with researchers in the Penn State Cancer Institute; teach a graduate-level course in chronic disease epidemiology; and mentor graduate students and post-doctoral trainees. The successful candidate should possess a doctoral degree in Epidemiology or in an equivalent field with additional training in epidemiology. A candidate with post-doctoral training and/or a publication record is highly desirable.

With its location in Hershey, near Harrisburg, PA, PHS has a strong collaborative relationship with public health scientists and practitioners with the PA Department of Health.

Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. The salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience and credentials. Candidates should apply and submit a letter of application to include a statement of current and future research interests, curriculum vitae, and names with contact information for three professional references.
