The HIV Cluster and Drew Center for AIDS Research Education and Services (Drew CARES) in Los Angeles, California (www.cdrewu.edu) seek to recruit one to two research faculty for appointment at the academic rank of AssociateFull Professor.

The University is seeking investigators whose work combines HIV prevention, treatment, and/or health services research with any of the following areas: substance abuse, mental illness, hepatitis, cancer, cardiovascular disease, or mobile technologies. We seek investigators with research experience and interest in domestic issues (including childhood trauma) related to Black and Latino populations OR international issues related to prevention and treatment services in developing countries.

All candidates should demonstrate an interest and skill in teaching, a commitment to translational research, and a history of multi- and interdisciplinary research collaboration.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Participate in the HIV Cluster/Drew CARES by:

• Promoting external and internal positive relationships with departments on campus, and professional and community organizations

• Attending professional and community meetings

• Mentoring and supporting junior faculty

1. Maintain faculty responsibility and accountability for:

• Prepare and contribute to research and other scholarly activities

• Participation in Mervyn M. Dymally School of Nursing, College of Medicine or College of Science and Health programs and committees, as well as other university committees as assigned

• Maintain a teaching load as assigned to meet department/college instructional needs

• Provide support to students, as well as opportunities for participation in research whenever possible

 

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist with student and faculty recruitment

• Participate in and support shared governance

• Perform other related duties as assigned

 

Qualifications/Requirements:

 

EDUCATION:

• Candidates with a Ph.D., DrPH, M.D., or DNP from a broad range of disciplinary backgrounds (e.g., public health, psychology, sociology, anthropology, social/behavioral epidemiology, nursing, health services, behavioral economics) are encouraged to apply.

RANK and TRACK

• Faculty rank will be determined based on experience and review of dossier material submitted.

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILLS:

• Strong track record of extramural funding

• Established and active research agenda

• Strong publication record

• Demonstrated ability to collaborate in a multidisciplinary environment

• Evidence of community outreach/engagement

• Evidence of national/international reputation

• Experience in a shared governance environment

• Experience providing mentorship and support to students and junior faculty

• An interest in mentoring and attracting additional junior research faculty

• Experience teaching MPH, Nursing, Life Sciences, Physician’s Assistant or Medical students

Mid-level candidates should have a strong record of scholarship, with experience as a principal investigator for funded research studies (e.g., Federal, state or private). Senior-level candidates are expected to demonstrate a strong track record as independent investigators, graduate-level teachers, and providing leadership. Experience securing center grant funding strongly preferred.

• The ability to formulate and implement a clear vision for the department while providing leadership and direction for the faculty, staff, and students is paramount to success in this position.
