The Yale Schools of Public Health (YSPH), Nursing (YSN), and Medicine (YSM) are jointly seeking a Professor and Director for the development of the new Yale Institute for Global Health (YIGH). This inaugural leadership position will have responsibility for leveraging and growing global health initiatives and programs at Yale and outside the university, by building strong collaborative relationships among individuals, programs, and organizations.

With the primary goal to catalyze research from schools, departments, and programs throughout Yale and its global partners, YIGH will be comprised of affiliated faculty and staff from diverse disciplines to confront global health issues with a multidisciplinary approach. The Director will strive to bring together researchers, practitioners, and policymakers from the campus and around the world to encourage collaboration for impact. Responsibilities include:

  • Establish and strengthen global health partnerships among faculty and programs at the health professional schools and throughout the university, as well as with national and international colleagues, and entities engaged in global health activities.
  • Develop programs to assist early career faculty to compete for external support for global health projects.
  • Identify opportunities (grant, foundation, donor) that would support YIGH research and overall mission; regularly submit proposals to national and international funding bodies and other donors; foster the submission of grant proposals by faculty and others; and conduct extramurally funded research in global health.
  • Disseminate the impact of YIGH to the Yale community and to individuals and entities outside the university.

YSPH, YSN, and YSM are leaders in the University’s commitment to improve health across the globe through research, education, and community engagement. The health science schools conduct research, promulgate capacity building, and provide meaningful training to foster health, promote innovation, educate leaders, and make a sustainable difference in the world. Faculty research spans a variety of fields including: noncommunicable and infectious diseases, implementation science, environmental health, behavioral determinants of health, reproductive and sexual health, management and capacity building, humanitarian response and refugee health, and policy and administration.

Disparities in global health are confronted through research, education, and health services in partnership with institutions serving resource-limited communities in the US and around the world. Global health oriented faculty collaborate with colleagues across the University and have created several interdisciplinary centers at the University, including:
