A genomics post-doctoral
position is available at The Ohio State University working in
an exciting position between the labs of Dr. Ray Hershberger,
a cardiac failure and heart transplantation
physician-scientist and Professor of Medicine and Director,
Division of Human Genetics; Dr. Sucheston-Campbell, a genetic
epidemiologist and Associate Professor in the Colleges of
Pharmacy and Veterinary Medicine; and Dr. Daniel Kinnamon, a
statistical geneticist and Research Assistant Professor and
Director of Human Genetics Research Informatics, Division of
Human Genetics. This post is focused on genetic susceptibility
to dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) and will work collaboratively
with a transdisciplinary multi-institutional team of
clinicians, translational scientists and genetic counselors to
formulate and test genomic hypotheses about hereditary DCM (http://dcmproject.com)
using familial genomic datasets.
The successful applicant will have
experience analyzing large genomic datasets (NGS, exome-wide
or genome-wide) in a Linux/Unix environment, as well as good
computational skills and experience using R. Experience using
literate programming and/or version control systems, such as
Git, to ensure reproducible research is desirable. Strong
enthusiasm to develop and/or improve analytic skills involving
analyses of family data is imperative, as is desire to work in
a collaborative team environment.
The post-doctoral fellow will gain
considerable bi-directional mentorship in genetic and
molecular epidemiology and cardiac medicine. Drs. Hershberger,
Sucheston-Campbell, and Kinnamon all enjoy mentoring graduate
students and postdoctoral fellows who are interested in
expanding their genomic computational skills and contributing
to DCM research.
A Ph.D.
in a relevant field such as genetic epidemiology, statistical
genetics, biostatistics or bioinformatics is required.
