Tenure Track Position
The University of Massachusetts-Amherst, School of Public
Health and Health Sciences (www.umass.edu/sphhs/)
is seeking applicants from a range of fields in public health
whose research emphasizes Latino health and attendant health
equity issues for a tenure track position at the Assistant
Professor level. Applications are encouraged from within the
areas of epidemiology, health policy and management, or
environmental health.
Position: This is a
fully state-funded (9-month) tenure track position.
Responsibilities include an active program of research,
teaching, professional, and community service, as well as
mentoring graduate and undergraduate students, departmental,
school and university service. Candidates must possess strong
research skills with a proven track record of, or excellent
potential for, extramural research funding, preferably from
federal funding agencies. Preference will be given to
candidates with a commitment to an interdisciplinary approach
to health research.
The successful candidate may join the faculty
in the programs of Epidemiology, Environmental Health
Sciences, or Health Policy and Management, depending on
background and research interests. Successful candidates will
also have the opportunity to become affiliated with a new
Center for Community Health Equity Research. Potential areas
of research interest may include chronic disease risk, cancer
survivorship, immigration policy, social determinants of
health, addiction, environmental health and health
policy/health services.
The School of Public Health & Health Sciences consists of a
highly collaborative group of active researchers in a variety
of areas, including: health disparities, women’s health,
cancer biomarkers, community based research, global health,
nutrition, environmental health, and genomics. In addition to
national and international collaborations, public health
faculty members collaborate extensively with faculty from the
School’s Departments of Nutrition, Kinesiology and
Communication Disorders, other departments on campus, the
University’s Medical School in Worcester, MA, and Baystate
Health in Springfield, MA. The University is located in the
scenic Pioneer Valley of Western Massachusetts, which is home
to five colleges (Amherst College, Hampshire College, Mount
Holyoke College, Smith College and the University of
Massachusetts Amherst) with easy access to several major
metropolitan areas.
Qualifications:
Candidates for the position must meet the following
requirements:
• Terminal degree (PhD, DrPH) in public health or related
field of study
• Evidence of independent and collaborative research
potential
• Demonstrated interest and ability in teaching at the
undergraduate and graduate level
First Review: The application review process will begin
October 16, 2017 and will continue until the position is
filled. The anticipated start date is September 2018.
