The Center for Gerontology
and Health Care Research in the School of Public Health, Brown
University, has an immediate opening for an entry level
Programmer/Analyst. This position requires interacting with
project investigators and collaborators internal and external
to Brown, programmers and analysts. The position
responsibilities include conducting analyses of research data
(including administrative data) for assisting in the
preparation of reports, manuscripts and project related
technical writing; creating study-specific data analysis
files; develop and maintain core and study-specific analytic
files; and document and archive analytic files for future
reference by investigators. Position requires excellent
summary and writing skills.
Major Responsibilities:
Assemble and
link multi-layered, complex administrative and research data
to suit diverse research objectives. Assess data quality, and
devise strategies to manage large data sets efficiently and to
address limitations of available data. Operationalize study
constructs, and validate empirical measures. Work with
investigators in identifying and implementing analytic
approaches appropriate to study aims using
common computational/statistical software programs.
Create and
maintain project specific analyses files: Assist faculty in
the design and development of databases for their studies,
including conducting preliminary analyses as needed.
Summarize, interpret, and report analytic results. Provide
full documentation of the program and data flow, variables
created, and resulting database structure.
Write reports,
assists in preparation of technical documents and manuscripts
and maintain center data and analytic resource archive
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s
degree (Master's degree preferred) and 1-3 years of related
experience, AND, knowledge of the US Health Care System.
• Excellent
computer skills: Creation of charts & graphs using Microsoft
Excel and Power Point, and analysis of data.
• Advanced SAS
programming knowledge, skills and experience
• Proficiency
SQL highly desirable
• Proficiency
in Stata will be helpful, but is not necessary
• Data
management and analysis experience.
• Excellent
oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to
manage multiple tasks, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
