OVERVIEW
The Epidemiology Research Program in the
Intramural Research Department at the American Cancer Society
is pleased to invite applications for post-doctoral research
fellowships in cancer epidemiology. Drawing on the expertise
and mentorship of the Society’s epidemiologists, and the
resources available from the Cancer Prevention Studies,
fellows will design a research program focused on identifying
and/or clarifying associations of lifestyle, genetic and
biologic factors with cancer incidence, mortality, survival or
survivorship. Priority areas of epidemiology research at the
American Cancer Society include breast and colorectal cancer,
lung cancer and tobacco use, and physical activity, nutrition
and obesity.
PROGRAM CONTENT
Opportunities exist for research in other
cancer outcomes and exposure areas such as hematologic and
rare cancers, population genetics, molecular pathological
epidemiology, and metabolomics. In addition, capitalizing on
the unique multidisciplinary environment at the American
Cancer Society, fellows will be able to translate and
communicate the relevance of their findings for cancer
prevention to Society staff and volunteers nationwide. The
program is designed to equip fellows with the knowledge and
skills that will enable them to become independent, yet highly
collaborative epidemiologic researchers. The fellowship is
located in Atlanta, GA at the American Cancer Society’s Global
Headquarters and provides salary support for up to three
years. Fellows also will receive funds for research-specific
training classes, travel, and laboratory work needed for
biospecimen-based analyses.
