Marshfield Clinic Research Institute (MCRI) is the largest private medical research institute in Wisconsin. MCRI is the research division of Marshfield Clinic, an integrated multispecialty health care system with over 700 physicians and 50+ regional centers.  The MCRI Center for Clinical Epidemiology and Population Health (CCEPH) is seeking a masters-level epidemiologist to support epidemiology research with a major focus on the Vaccine Safety Datalink, a CDC-funded research program. The CCEPH mission is to improve population health and patient care outcomes by leading and promoting consequential epidemiology research. We have the resources and expertise to conduct cutting-edge research, including a combined electronic medical record, medication and immunization registries, and a large group of experienced epidemiologists and scientific support staff. Masters Epidemiologist Position

The Center for Clinical Epidemiology & Population Health is seeking a masters-level epidemiologist. The Epidemiologist will support epidemiology research with a major focus on the Vaccine Safety Datalink, a CDC-funded research program. The epidemiologist will function as a project manager, research collaborator, and key contact for VSD based research. Major responsibilities will include: a) coordination of research studies, b) data management and analytic support, c) assistance with study design, protocol development, grant writing and d) ensuring compliance with IRB and privacy rules. The masters epidemiologist will assist with manuscript writing and data analysis using SAS. Opportunities will be available to coauthor manuscripts and present research results at national meetings. The masters epidemiologist will interact frequently with collaborators at CDC and other VSD sites. This position will be supervised by the VSD principal investigators.

The VSD project is a collaborative effort between CDC's Immunization Safety Office and nine health care research organizations. The VSD project was established in 1990 to monitor immunization safety and address the gaps in scientific knowledge about rare and serious events following immunization. The VSD project includes a large linked database that uses administrative data sources at each site to conduct vaccine safety research. Each participating site links electronic data on vaccination (vaccine type, date of vaccination) with medical outcomes (outpatient, inpatient and ED diagnoses) for members of the VSD cohort. Both pediatric and adult vaccines are evaluated for a variety of safety outcomes. The VSD also conducts population based active surveillance to monitor vaccine adverse events in near-real time. Marshfield Clinic is currently actively involved in or leading a variety of VSD studies.

The Marshfield VSD study team includes MD/PhD researchers, biostatisticians, programmers, and research coordinators. Additional opportunities may be available to work on industry-sponsored vaccine research and federally funded projects, including influenza vaccine effectiveness.

Qualifications

• MPH, MS or equivalent degree in epidemiology or related field is required.
• Strong analytic skills with training in statistics and use of statistical software are required.  (SAS or equivalent is preferred).
• Work experience in epidemiology research or public health practice is required; this may include work experience during a training program. Prior experience in vaccine-related research is desirable.
• Experience working on collaborative research teams is preferred.
• Publications are desirable.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
• Self-directed individual who is able to problem solve and work independently to coordinate VSD program activities.
