Description of General Responsibilities

Currently, VCU Office of Health Innovation is maintaining and expanding its data analytic infrastructure to drive and measure improvement in population health, community health, and health equity. The goal of the OHI Data Team is to provide accurate, timely data to inform the planning, implementation, and evaluation of innovative health care models at VCU Health System and in the community.

The Evaluation Coordinator and Data Analyst will:
1) Analyze and translate data into useful information for program and senior management at VCUHS and partners in the community.
2) Manage assigned projects and ad hoc requests related to data management and analysis, program evaluation, documentation of data and/or processes, grant writing, data collection for demonstration projects, literature reviews, and any emerging projects.
3) Prepare and present written and oral reports and/or status updates on assigned projects to stakeholders.
4) Attend at least one conference or training each year to further develop skills needed to support business needs in the Office and bring back best practices to share with the Data Team.
 

Required Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) and/or Competencies required to successfully perform the work:

(1) Knowledge of Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) or value-based initiatives/alternate payment arrangements

(2) Knowledge of principles of epidemiology, health care research, biostatistics, data collection and management, and applied epidemiological methods
(3) Knowledge of and familiarity with the following types of program evaluation: formative, process, outcome, and/or impact evaluation
(4) Knowledge of International Classification of Diseases (ICD) codes, CPT codes, and HEDIS measures
(5) Ability to analyze large data sets in SAS statistical software, IBM Cognos or Tableau business intelligence tools
(6) Strong written and verbal communication skills
(7) Ability to complete projects and manage multiple tasks with minimal supervision
(8) Working knowledge of PubMed, MedLine, or other journal/publication research systems
(9) Proficient in Microsoft office suite, particularly Excel and Access
(10) Strong organizational skills, including ability to effectively translate technical and theoretical concepts or information to technical and non-technical staff.
(11) Exhibit critical thinking and problem solving skills
(12) Contribute in team settings
(13) Willingness to learn new software packages and participate in training and professional development activities that may require traveling
(14) Knowledge of health care delivery systems, health care and population health databases
(15) Familiarity with IRB processes and procedures.
(16) Ability to prepare statistical, research based reports and recommendations using public health, health care, economic and/or epidemiological data

Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification required for entry into position:

(1) Demonstrated experience with SAS statistical software (SAS 9) for data management and analysis
(2) Demonstrated experience in the analysis of medical claims data
(3) Demonstrated experience with the evaluation of health service programs including development of logic models, analysis plans, and generating and/or refining evaluation questions

 

Preferred Qualifications:

(1) Prefer experience or familiarity with Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) or value-based initiatives/alternate payment arrangements

(2)Prefer experience or familiarity with REDCap for primary data collection

(3) Prefer graduation from an accredited college or university with a master’s degree and advanced course work in program evaluation, epidemiology, biostatistics, public health or health services research or equivalent combination of work and experience
 

Pay Band

04, Classified (Full-Time)
 

Department Hiring Range

$42,000 to $55,000
