Research Associate  

Kaiser Permanente Southern California’s Department of Research and Evaluation (R&E) conducts high-quality, innovative translational research that benefits the health of its members and the communities from which they come. At Kaiser Permanente, research helps us learn what we need to do to provide better care for our members and promote better health in the community. More than 350 people work at the Pasadena, California-based Department of Research & Evaluation. The department is the primary hub of research for Kaiser Permanente Southern California, supporting research by full-time faculty members as well as medical center-based clinician researchers.

The Department of Research and Evaluation is seeking research associates for epidemiologic research studies.

Essential Responsibilities

·         Coordinates day-to-day activities of several small scale project(s) or phases of one or more larger projects.

·         Collects project data through interviews, chart review or other methods.

·         May assist in development of study tools (e.g. tracking forms, questionnaires, chart review forms, etc.).

·         Assists with and/ or oversees assigned study activities.

·         Drafts project progress reports collaboratively.

·         May participate in the training of new team members and/or clinical staff. If assigned to clinical trial, may work

·         with Sponsors/ monitors at clinical sites.

·         Adheres to compliance and privacy/ confidentiality requirements and standards. Adheres to GCP and compliance

·         regulations for clinical trials.

·         Assists with and/ or oversees quality assurance of study activities; ensures quality data.

·         Identifies, recommends and implements solutions to study issues.

·         May interface with IRB and/ or draft portions of IRB protocols, amendments, continuing reviews, etc.

·         May supervise the day-to-day activities of project staff (ex. assign work and evaluate performance, etc).

·         May assist with staff hiring and training.

·         May contribute to portions of study presentations.

·         Serves as a member on department or study-related committees.

·         May track expenses and monitor budget. May recommend budget actions/ decisions.

Preferred Qualifications:

·                 Master of Public Health in Epidemiology


Post-Doctoral Research Fellow

More than 350 people work at the Pasadena, California-based Department of Research & Evaluation. The department is the primary hub of research for Kaiser Permanente Southern California, supporting research by full-time faculty members as well as medical center-based clinician researchers.

The Department of Research and Evaluation is seeking post-doctoral research fellows interested in epidemiologic studies such as infectious disease, cancer, or vaccine safety and effectiveness.

This one-year renewable position will provide mentored experience in field work, proposal development and scientific publication, designed to prepare the incumbent for a productive career as an independent researcher.

Essential Responsibilities

·         Designs, develops, and directs well-defined research with supervision from a R&E Research Scientist.

·         Prepares grant proposals and publications independently and collaboratively.

·         Provides consultation and direction to programmer/analysts with regard to data management and analysis strategies.

·         May perform subject assessments or chart reviews or provide direction to research support staff performing these tasks.

·         Submits abstracts to and presents papers at national scientific meetings.

·         Seeks consultation from research scientists for specific scientific and administrative issues.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

·         Track record of publication in the peer-reviewed literature and grant-writing experience.

·         Doctoral degree (Ph.D., Dr.PH, MD, Sc.D) in epidemiology, preferably in infectious disease or cancer epidemiology, or clinical doctoral degree + master's degree with formal research training in epidemiology.

·         Competent in advanced research methods, including statistical techniques and study design commonly used in epidemiologic research or related fields.


Research Project Manager/Senior Research Project Manager

At Kaiser Permanente, research helps us learn what we need to do to provide better care for our members and promote better health in the community. More than 350 people work at the Pasadena, California-based Department of Research & Evaluation. The department is the primary hub of research for Kaiser Permanente Southern California, supporting research by full-time faculty members as well as medical center-based clinician researchers.

The Department of Research and Evaluation is seeking research project managers and senior research project managers interested in managing medium to large scale epidemiologic research studies.

Essential Responsibilities

·         Monitors progress of study activities (e.g. data collection and validation, recruitment, pilot studies, etc.) and ensures that study objectives are met.

·         Oversees data collection and conducts data analysis. Implements quality control and quality assurance measures.

·         May co-author scientific papers with the investigator for presentation and/ or publication.

·         Makes decisions for day-to-day operations of projects including the resolution of technical problems and questions from project staff.

·         Assists investigators in developing and preparing grant proposals by contributing to portions of grant proposals.

·         May contribute to development of study methodology.

·         Interfaces with IRB and drafts IRB protocols, amendments, continuing reviews, etc.

·         May provide leadership and direction to multidisciplinary project teams

 

Preferred Qualifications:

·         Doctoral degree (Ph.D., Dr.PH, MD, Sc.D) in epidemiology or clinical doctoral degree + master's degree with formal research training in epidemiology

·         Conducts and interprets quantitative and/ or qualitative analyses.

·         Experience developing and managing budgets, preferably research project budgets.
