The Robert
Stempel College of Public Health & Social Work at Florida
International University is accepting applications for a
tenure-earning Associate/Full Professor/Chair position in
the Department of Biostatistics.
With the
appointment of a new Dean, Dr. Tomás Guilarte, the College
is looking for a dynamic leader to help advance the
Department and College's vision of becoming a hub for high
quality research. The Chair is also expected to position
the Department competitively in biostatistical extramural
research funding and in actively collaborating with other
units and investigators within and outside of Stempel
College. The department currently offers Masters of Public
Health in Biostatistics and working in developing Ph.D.
and M.S. degrees in Biostatistics related fields. Current
departmental research includes, complex longitudinal
statistical modeling, modeling and health impact of
environmental pollutants, correlated data analysis,
statistical genomics, big data analytics, and causal
inference; and collaborative research activities with the
scientists within and outside of FIU. The department
actively participates in the Stempel College strategic
research areas, i.e., environmental exposure,
neurotoxicology, and neuroscience, chronic disease and
aging, health disparities and improving health equity, and
population health consequences of climate change.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
qualifications include Ph.D. degree in biostatistics,
statistics, or related-discipline and effective
interpersonal and communication skills with ethnically and
culturally diverse populations. As appropriate for rank, a
track record of collaborative research and peer-reviewed
publications, demonstrated ability to obtain research
grants and effective teaching in the relevant discipline
are also required. Competitive applicants should have a
strong, extramurally funded research program in place as
Principal Investigator. Experience with managing a
biostatistical consulting service, as well as the
development and implementation of biostatistical academic
programs will be considered positively.
RESPONSIBILITY
Responsibilities will include
research, teaching graduate courses, student advisement
both for master's and doctoral-level students,
serving on master's thesis and doctoral dissertation
committees, and serving the university, professional, and
local communities. Candidate will be responsible for
developing the programs, administering the budget,
coordinating teaching assignments, and
evaluating/mentoring department faculty and staff.
