Position Summary:
The Scientist will work under the supervision of Dr. Kellie Murphy, Clinical Investigator in a multi-disciplinary, collaborative research environment dedicated to the improvement of women’s and neonatal health in Canada and internationally. The position will be full time with 50% dedicated to independent research and the remainder to collaboration and support of other projects within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, teaching and supervision of graduate students through Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation (IHPME) at University of Toronto. 
This position will commence at the rank of Assistant Professor, or higher, at the University of Toronto.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work includes independent research in the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology, with the expectation of obtaining independent research funding and publication in peer-reviewed journals
  • Co appointment and active participation in Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation including formal graduate teaching and involvement on graduate student thesis committees
  • Provide guidance and performs collaborative quantitative analyses of multiple ongoing projects in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology 
  • Provide expertise to research teams in the design, analysis, and interpretation of research studies in a collaborative role.
  • Contributes to the preparation of research reports, including documentation of study design and statistical methodology, and articles for publication.

Education and Experience:

  • PhD in Biostatistics or Epidemiology, with interest in designing studies for research questions related to health, quantitative methodology for health research, and experience with statistical applications in one or more areas in population, clinical, or health services research
  • Experience in a research environment including a thorough understanding of research methodology, clinical data, advanced statistical methodology and statistical analysis software applied to research
  • Experience working with large databases required

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to independently design and lead  new projects
  • Solid training in epidemiological methods and study design
  • Strong quantitative analytical skills, including ability to conduct multilevel modelling, longitudinal analysis and spatial analysis with Markov chain Monte Carlo methods, and other statistical techniques and computational skills
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis software and experience working with large databases
  • Strong problem solving and decision making skills
  • Excellent communication (oral and written), interpersonal, organizational and time management skills
  • Familiarity in working with confidential information; maintaining professionalism, diplomacy and tact under high pressure situations 
  • Ability to work with an interdisciplinary research team, including clinicians, laboratory staff, and scientists
