Description:

We are seeking an experienced, data programmer/analyst to join Dr. Lyndsay Avalos’s research team. Our rearch group is focused on identifying genetic and environmental factors (e.g. alcohol use, medication exposure, ambient temperature, nutrition, etc.) during the perinatal period that influence maternal, fetal and infant health.  With minimal guidance of the principal investigator and project manager, this person will consult on feasibility, design, and methods of research projects. Their responsibilities will include: 1) performing advanced statistical analyses independently, such as generalized linear regression, survival analysis, and hierarchical modeling, marginal structural models; 2) extracting data and developing analytic datasets for randomized controlled trials, longitudinal cohort studies, and other epidemiologic studies; 3) summarizing results of analyses in tables and reports; and 4) preparing sections of manuscripts for publication.  The position is full time and based in Oakland, CA.

Qualifications include: 1) Masters degree in Public Health or Statistics, 2) Strong statistical analysis and consulting background including three years programming in SAS, R, SQL, VBA; net or equivalent statistical analytical programming language, 3) Experience with analytical manipulation and interpretation of large databases required; Knowledge of DB2 extraction using SQL and database management programs such as Microsoft Access, 4) A minimum of 2 - 3 years analytical consulting experience or healthcare experience preferred; Broad familiarity with medical practices, especially population management and process and outcomes measurement, 5) Experience with MVS/TSO operating systems preferred; if not, experience with another mainframe operating system required; Knowledge of JCL strongly preferred; Microsoft Office skills required, 6) Strong analytic and critical thinking skills, writing skills, communication skills, consulting skills, and ability to work within a team; Ability to express complex analytical and technical information to senior management or to audiences with clinical training, and 7) Must be an independent self-starter.
